CHOPIN 2010 Celebrations office

Where do I find comprehensive information on Chopin places?

To learn more about the places connected with Chopin visit the Information Resource of at the Chopin Year Celebrations website of the chopin2010.pl portal. What is more, the Chopin 2010 Celebrations Office is collaborating with associations of Polish local authorities (Związek Powiatów Polskich, Związek Miast Polskich and Związek Gmin RP) to prepare an updated map of urban spaces and institutions bearing Fryderyk Chopin’s name (e.g. squares, streets, schools). You may see their list at chopin2010.pl.

Will Chopin places and roads leading to them have any special marking?

In response to numerous questions and suggestions placed by tour operators in the context of the Chopin Year, the Chopin 2010 Celebrations Office in collaboration with the Polish Tourism Organisation came up with the idea for introducing a unified marking system helping tourists find their way to places and historical buildings with Chopin relevance (routes, parks, squares, monuments, places where Chopin was born and where he and his closest relatives lived, etc.). The pictogram commissioned by the Chopin 2010 Celebrations Office uses an easily recognisable image of Chopin’s profile and serves as a unified identification of motor, bicycle and walking routes, as well as particular buildings with Chopin relevance.

What is the procedure of marking Chopin places and reads leading to them?

The Chopin 2010 Celebrations Office grants regional tourist organisations a free license to use the Chopin pictogram commissioned by the Office (designed by Małgorzata Zdancewicz). Acting in collaboration with road management authorities, the organisations  should strive to introduce the pictogram along all kinds of roads in Poland, ranging from motorways to local roads.

To date, the licence was granted to the Regional Tourist Organisation for Kujawy and Pomorze, the Regional Tourist Organisation for Śląsk and the Regional Tourist Organisation for Mazowsze. Efforts are going to be taken to get city mayors and other local executives authorities to promote the pictogram’s dissemination.

When will the Fryderyk Chopin Museum open?

The Fryderyk Chopin Museum’s opening is planned for 1st March 2010. To find out more, please contact the Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw which manages the project.
