En attendant Chopin

Music and drama show based on a fictitious meeting of Chopin’s six admirers who await the Polish virtuoso in a palace’s or a mansion’s drawing room preparing a great party to honour him.

They tell stories of the composer’s life, recall anecdotes and teach the gathered guests the master’s favourite, yet unknown, songs. Will Chopin arrive? Will his vulnerable health make it possible? The spectators will not find this out until the end of the show. Instead, they will gradually become more and more involved in the plot of the drawing room play... The show is designed for staging in salon spaces in mansions or palaces.

Theatre, music

Technical requirements
The performing artists: The show features 2 actresses and 4 opera singers – members of Poznań’s Teatr Polski and Teatr Wielki, as well as two pianists to play the Polish genius’s virtuoso, if little known, works.

The target audience: The show is addressed at all kinds of audiences, not only classical music lovers, but also the general public, with the message being accessible and the show audience–oriented in character, encouraging the viewers to try and find out on their own who Fryderyk Chopin was. The show has already been staged in Italy (Rome and La Scala in Milan), Ireland (The National Concert Hall in Dublin) and Poland (Redutowe Halls at the Polish National Opera and the Royal Castle in Warsaw), each time enthusiastically received by the audience. In 2016 the show is also going to be staged in Santander, Spain.

The staging: The show utilises existing natural spaces (drawing rooms, courtyards, gardens, etc.), which makes it possible to be staged also in locations without any performance facilities.

Stage design and costumes: All costumes used are provided by the Teatr Wielki in Poznań, (i.e. dresses, tail–coats and accessories back from Chopin’s period). The show utilises furniture and props available at the particular location.

Previous executions of the project
The show’s première took place at the Wojciech Drabowicz Chamber Stage at the Teatr Wielki in Poznań on the 27th of February, 2010. After it has been staged there on the 4th, 11th, 12th, 23rd, 24th, 25th and 26th of March, the artProject is available for staging at other locations.
