Thousand colours - choreographer Takako Matsuda

The spectacle "Thousand Colours" to Fryderyk Chopin's music concerns the passing nature of life ignored in our daily rush.

Reality changes every minute. Everybody has their own colour. These colours undergo changes: cheerful or sad, along with the course of our lives. We are passing with every moment. Our reminiscences always concern past..

"The spectacle «Thousand Colours» by Takako Matsuda constitutes a positive surprise. Before the staging the title caused apprehension that dance would become a secondary issue hidden behind the cheap show of colourful lights and costumes - finally, we can reach for the simplest solution and present the thousand colours of our everyday lives in the easiest possible way. However, Matsuda faced the challenge.
The stage hosts dancers dressed in grey costumes (only the brims of their clothes had pieces of colourful material). It allowed the spectator to concentrate on the movement, emotions and music. the last one became especially important, as it was not only the background for the movement of dancers - rather it caused and triggered the movement. Several times the spectators could have the impression that mazurkas and preludes by Fryderyk Chopin in a minute would transform into rock'n'roll. However, there was little of the promised melancholy and longing which dancers were expected to elicit from the music as planned at the beginning. The movement on stage with its ease and freshness was far away from the defined classics. Personally, in this tale about life and feelings which can have thousand colours I saw mostly the sunny cheerfulness. Maybe it happened so because it is cheerfulness which even in small doses makes us ignore the greyness of our everyday lives."
