Songs by Chopin

Two young, Krakow-born artists Elżbieta Kupiec (soprano) and Monika Płachta (piano) embark on an artistic project offering a fresh look at the issue of creative interpretation of Fryderyk Chopin’s Songs.

Drawing inspiration from the Polish folk music and set to the lyrics of prominent Polish poets, Chopin’s miniatures were regarded as the "second-rate" art. Years since, they are now perceived as a manifestation of the Chopin style in its purest form. Two young Krakow-born artists Elżbieta Kupiec (soprano) and Monika Płachta (piano) are embarking on the difficult task of the miniatures’ re-interpretation.

Elżbieta Kupiec is a soprano singer. She graduated from the Vocal and Acting Faculty of the Academy of Music in Kraków. She attended courses from Professor Helmuth Rilling, Professor Ryszard Karczykowski and Professor Dariusz Grabowski. She performed in Poland and abroad with PZPIT Mazowsze, and the ensemble of the Rozrywka Theatre in Chorzów. She is involved in a continuing cooperation with the Choir of Kraków Philharmonic.

Monika Płachta is a pianist. She graduated from the Instrumental Department and the Music Education Department of the Academy of Music in Kraków. She has cooperated with the Polish Radio’s Choir, Cappella Cracoviensis, and, currently with the Choir of Kraków Philharmonic. She is a lecturer at the Choir Department of the Academy of Music in Kraków. Her repertoire includes chamber music (Rossini, Brahms, Britten), as well as solo pieces (Britten, Stockhausen).
