Chopiniana

The Chopiniana project is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Fryderyk Chopin's birth and created in relation to a long concert tour scheduled for 2010.

The programme includes Fryderyk Chopin Concerto in E minor Op. 11 (optionally, in F minor Op. 21) for piano and string quartet, as well as "Chopiniana con delizia" – a free fantasy combining classical music and jazz for accordion duo, clarinet and string quartet, by an outstanding Polish composer, pianist and arranger Krzysztof Herdzin, drawing inspiration from motifs of Fryderyk Chopin’s works.
The two compositions are bridged by two pieces written by young contemporary composers drawing inspiration from Chopin’s music: "Polish Suite" (pl. "Suita Polska") by Cezary Paciorek and "Five Thoughts on Fryderyk" (pl. "Pięć myśli o Fryderyku") by Mikołaj Majkusiak.
An alternative option is a recital titled "Chopiniana Brillante" featuring Carl Maria von Weber Clarinet Quintet instead of Fryderyk Chopin’s Concerto.
"Chopiniana Brillante" showcases the special link between the brillante style and our instrument. The 19th century being both the period of the brillante style in music and the time when the chromatic button accordion came to life (1823). The common denominator is also the particular opportunity to make virtuoso use of the instrument. Hence, the programme includes wonderful transcriptions of compositions by Liszt, Bizet and Lutosławski, as well as presentations of contemporary pieces by Paciorek, Majkusiak and Herdzin (exact quotations along with harmonic and stylistic re-workings).
Famous artists from Poland and abroad have been invited to cooperation, among them there are outstanding pianists and excellent quartets. In foreign presentation we invite to cooperation outstanding local artists.
The "Chopiniana" project aims at presenting Chopin music as a source of immense inspiration for the imagination of the outstanding present day artists. Their fresh, full of passion point of view is visible in unconventional artistic undertakings of the highest quality.
