CHOPIN 2010 Celebrations office

In the summer of 1828, Fryderyk Chopin spent his holidays at his schoolmate, Konstanty Pruszak's home at the Palace in Sanniki, Poland. In his letter to his friend, Tytus Woyciechowski, Chopin wrote: "(...) I was in Sanniki at the Pruszaks', I spent the whole summer there (...) I reworked the last Rondo in C major for two pianos; I have practiced it today".

The Palace in Sanniki is an active Chopin Centre hosting Chopin concerts accompanied with Polish poetry recitations. At present, the whole complex and its surrounding park is undergoing major renovation work. The project "Restoration of the Fryderyk Chopin Palace and Park" includes redesigning the park's spaces, replacing internal installations, rebuilding and redesigning the interiors. Once the work is completed, the "Fryderyk Chopin European Centre of Music in Sanniki" ( pl. "Europejskie Centrum Artystyczne im. Fryderyka Chopina w Sannikach") is going to be founded at the Palace.

The scope of the renovation work:

dismantling of the existent ceilings and floors and replacing them with new ones;
- reinforcing the walls and reconstructing the destroyed parts; replacing wooden roof construction and its cover, replacing wooden windows and door frames;
- reducing the building's dampness, replacing the ceiling in the observation tower;
- replacing the internal installations (plumbing, central heating and electrical wiring);
- renovation and rearrangement of the interiors;
- providing the building with the necessary equipment.

Major renovation works cover the following parts of the palace:

- the concert and music area;
- the exhibition area;
- the educational area (where music workshops are held);
- the house of artistic work;
- the Chopin library.

The project is financed mainly by the European Regional Development Fund in the framework of the Regional Operating Programme of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship 2007 – 2013. The contract for realization of the task was signed on December 15, 2009 by Adam Struzik, Marshall of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, Wiesław Raboszuk, Director of the Mazovieckie's EU Funds Implementation Unit, and Monika Patrowicz, Director of the Fryderyk Chopin European Artistic Centre. Total worth of the project amounts to PLN 20 million, the European Union provides PLN 17 million and PLN 3 million comes from the own financial means of the Fryderyk Chopin Palace and Park Complex in Sanniki (pl. Zespół Pałacowo-Parkowy im. F. Chopina w Sannikach).

On January 12, 2011, the building site was formally opened to the company "Winnicki" Paweł Winnicki z Sochaczewa which had won the tender for the realization of the construction work.

Until the renovation work in the Palace, the cyclic Chopin events will take place in the Municipal Centre of Culture in Sanniki.
